Introduction of the Iraqi Society for Histopathologists

The Iraqi Society for Histopathologists is one of the specialized scientific and professional organizations established to support and advance the field of histopathology in the Republic of Iraq, and to enhance its pivotal role in disease diagnosis and in serving the healthcare and educational systems. The establishment of the Society came in response to the growing need for a scientific and organizational framework that brings together histopathology specialists and unifies their academic and professional efforts in line with modern developments in pathology.

The Society was officially founded on December 17, 2025, with Baghdad designated as its main headquarters, and with the possibility of establishing branches in other Iraqi governorates in accordance with applicable laws. The Society serves as a national scientific umbrella encompassing histopathology specialists from various health and academic institutions across Iraq.
The current President of the Society is Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Qurtas, a distinguished academic figure in the field of histopathology and one of the founding members of the Society.

The Society aims to raise the scientific and professional standards of histopathologists, promote the development of well-rounded professional competencies, and strengthen scientific and professional collaboration among its members. In addition, it seeks to address challenges facing the specialty and contribute to its continuous development. The Society also works to regulate laboratory practice in histopathology in accordance with established laws and regulations, uphold medical ethics and professional conduct, and contribute to the establishment of standardized reference systems for histopathology reporting.

To achieve its objectives, the Society organizes scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops, encourages and supports scientific research, and promotes the publication of specialized studies. Furthermore, it seeks to establish communication and cooperation with similar scientific societies at both regional and international levels, facilitating the exchange of expertise and keeping pace with global advances in the field of histopathology. Through these efforts, the Society aspires to be a leading scientific body contributing to the advancement of histopathology and the service of the medical community in Iraq.
